WindowMaster MotorLink™ Technology

MotorLink™ is digital communication technology that provides improved control and functionality when you have automated high level windows or louvres operated by a Building Management System (BMS).

Two way communication between the WindowMaster MotorLink™ Actuators and MotorLink™ MotorControllers enables the BMS to accurately position the windows and maintain the external appearance of the façade.

It operates within open bus communication standards – including BACnet, KNX and Modbus – its operation does not require dedicated expensive software systems.

The main features of MotorLink™  include precise position control, three-speed actuator operation, synchronisation between multiple actuators on the same window and a pressure safety function. Additional features include reversing function which protects the weather seal around the window, fault indication and online set-up.

The full range of WindowMaster actuators and MotorControllers stocked by Arens incorporate MotorLink™ Technology.

Consultants

MotorLink products provide consultants with the ability to produce buildings with intelligent window systems that will maintain the external appearance of the facade as well an optimal indoor climate for the occupants.

Precise position control and feedback

Communication between actuators and MotorControllers enables the actuators to report back their precise position to the BMS. Accurate millimetre-by-millimetre control of the actuators enables optimal indoor climate no matter the season.

Three speed operation

Different opening and closing speeds can be used depending on the command sent.

  • A slow and soundless speed when in automatic mode
  • Faster, more audible speed when the actuators are activated by the manual keypads
  • Swift operation used for opening of windows or louvres when in fire mode
Genuine synchronisation

Actuators communicate directly with each other and adjust their speed to remain fully synchronised and prevent damage to the window that may be caused by actuators operating at different speeds. Up to 4 actuators can be used on a single window with a tolerance of less than 2mm.

Reversing function

To ensure prolonged life of the window gaskets and air-tight seals around the window, an integrated reversing function will back off pressure by a couple of millimetres. This is individually programmable for each window.

Pressure safety function

To reduce the risk of risk of entrapment the actuators can be programmed to stop and reverse if they encounter obstacles when attempting to close.

Fault indication

Two-way communication between the MotorController and each individual actuator can provide an early indication of any potential faults. This is particularly important for very high or out of sight windows.

Online parameter set-up

Online parameter set-up can take place from a maintenance terminal in the building or remotely via the internet or a modem. This greatly reduces commissioning time and potentially costs.

Technical benefits

The ability to interface with major international bus-communications standards and enable the BMS supplier to quickly and easily program the required parameters for the windows.

Acoustics

MotorLink™ Technology enables different opening and closing speeds to be used depending on the digital command that is received.

  • A slow and soundless speed when in automatic mode
  • Faster, more audible speed when the actuators are activated by the manual keypads
  • Swift operation used for opening of windows or louvres when in fire mode
Control

Accurate data communication between the actuators and the MotorControllers enables the actuators to report back their precise position. The BMS system will then know the exact position of the windows or louvres at the same time, allowing them to accurately position them as desired. This allows for all windows in the same part of the building to be opened or closed at the same time to maintain the external appearance of the facade.

Range

We have a variety of chain and spindle actuators incorporating MotorLink™  in our WindowMaster range. The correct actuator can be specified taking the following points into account:

  • window type, size and special requirements
  • application requirements (sound level and pressure safety)
  • aesthetic requirements (concealed or surface mounted, actuator colour, chain or spindle
